As a wedding photographer, I see a lot of weddings every year.  And while each one has something special about it that makes it unique, they’re usually fairly similar.  After all, weddings are all about tradition, which by its very definition means repeating the actions others have done before us.  But Amy and Neil did a fantastic job taking the traditional and personalizing it.  While they still had and did the normal things: a beautiful dress, flower girls, bride’s entrance, ceremony, etc., it all had a very personal twist.  I’ll let you see for yourselves, but here’s a hint.  There was a row boat involved!

Bride and Groom Meet

Amy and Neil decided to see each other before the ceremony.  When he saw her, Neil picked Amy up and twirled around with her.

Bride with Birdcage Veil

Amy’s dress was gorgeous and very different.  She also chose to wear this cool birdcage veil.

Bride and Groom

Bare feet….

Backyard Ceremony

The ceremony and reception were in Amy’s parents’ backyard.  They have and incredible house on a little lake in Chapel Hill.  The yard is HUGE and beautifully gardened.

Ceremony Chairs

Scarves to dress up the chairs….

Bell Ringer

To start the ceremony, this little guy ran through ringing a bell, and I do mean ran!

Flower Mama and Baby

Rather than flower girls, there were flower mamas and babies.

Brides Entrance

Amy made her grand entrance in a ROW BOAT!  Kudos to Amy for being brave and talented enough to pull it off!

Ceremony

The ceremony itself was very personalized, including self-written readings from several friends and a tasting ceremony.

Bride and Groom Exit

And a running exit….

Head Table

All of the tables were decorated with bouquets of flowers labeled with cool quotes.

Wedding Reception

Guests mingling before dinner.  Thankfully the rain that had been forecasted never came!

Photo Booth

They had a photo booth set up where guests could dig through a chest of funky accessories and dress up for a photo.  The camera was manned by other guests or placed on self timer.

Sparklers

Towards the end of the evening, guests had fun playing with the sparklers that were on the tables along with personalized matchbooks.

Wish Boats

All of the guests then had their own “wish boat” where they placed a lighted candle on a little bark boat and sent it off in the lake, making a wish as they released it.  The idea is that the wish on the last candle to go out will come true….Whether that’s the case or not, it looked beautiful with all the little boats floating on the water!

Boquet Toss 1

And the bouquet toss with Amy’s sisters fighting it out for the bouquet….

Boquet Toss 2

Triumph!

Congratulations Amy and Neil!  Have a great time in Hawaii, and take lots of pictures!
